Summer Academic Program

Since the summer of 2010, AFFECT, Inc. has hosted the Summer Academic Program (SAP), which is a free summer program to underprivileged youth, ages 7-14.Serving predominately youth from Collin, Dallas, and Denton counties, we provide fun and safe learning environment, full of academic learning and a variety of educational experiences for the program participates.Our first year hosting the camp was in 2010 and we served 30 youth, and in 2011the number increased to 63 youth.  Last years SAP serviced 74 youth and included our Summer Feeding program that helped feed youth 18 and under for the entire summer.This year we are anticipating at least 85 youth in our program, which will be instructed in science, math, and technology, and a host of other subjects, like internet safety, bullying, using the library and stranger danger (discussed with the assistance of the Plano Police Department). Also included are field trips to museums and exercise activities to keep both their minds and bodies healthy and active throughout the summer. The program was developed to bridge the gap in the summer to keep the minds of youth on academics and to make sure they are ready to return to school in the fall.
